Hollingsworth LLP coaches student teams in GeoPlunge Tournament.
On November 17, 2015, Hollingsworth LLP coached two teams of students from Garrison Elementary School in the Annual GeoPlunge Tournament, through the Firm’s participation with the Washington Lawyer’s Committee. Attorneys from HLLP have been working with students from the local Garrison Elementary School, located in the Logan Circle neighborhood of D.C., since the fall of 2014 to prepare for the fast-paced geography-based tournaments in December 2014, May 2015, and most recently in November 2015. The tournaments were all held at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and nearly 100 teams from the District of Columbia Public Schools have participated.
Through bi-weekly coaching sessions, the Garrison students — and the lawyers — got excited about geography and social studies and learned valuable lessons about sportsmanship. Demonstrating that fact, one of the Garrison teams won the “Sportsmanship Award” at the tournament this year.
Volunteers from Hollingsworth LLP included Kathryn Sacco Jensen, Gary Rubin, Greg Chernack, Tamara Barago, and Omer Farukhi. Kathryn Sacco Jensen and Gary Rubin also served as monitors for the event.
