Hollingsworth LLP designates Martha’s Table as its August 2020 Community Engagement Partner.

news | August 1, 2020

In order to continue our commitment to addressing food insecurity in the D.C. community during the COVID-19 pandemic, Hollingsworth LLP will donate $5,000 to Martha’s Table and will match cumulative Associate and Staff Attorney donations made this month.  Many thanks to our Community Engagement attorney team for helping us identify Martha’s Table as this month’s partner, whose mission is to “support strong children, strong families, and strong communities by increasing access to quality education, health and wellness, and family resources.”

Martha’s Table is a local non-profit organization that offers nationally accredited early childhood education, after school enrichment programs, and college and career readiness training to promote lifelong success. Food and nutrition have been at the heart and soul of Martha’s Table since they opened their doors in 1980. The daily Martha’s Table Markets, monthly Community Markets, network of monthly Joyful Food Markets, and McKenna’s Wagon aim to increase access to healthy food and support children and their families in making healthy choices. Martha’s Table is committed to ensuring parents and caregivers are both supported and supportive. The Family Engagement Program helps strengthen the home-school relationship for students and connects caregivers to critical resources.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Martha’s Table announced a commitment to doubling down on their mission to meet the sharp spike in need caused by the pandemic. With the help of donations, Martha’s Table has more than quadrupled the reach of their grocery programs. Each week, Martha’s Table supports over 8,000 D.C. residents with fresh produce and healthy pantry staples, distributing more than 100,000 pounds of food at 20 sites across the city. Martha’s Table continues to deliver essential nutrition to people who are experiencing hunger or housing instability through McKenna’s Wagon, their no-cost food truck that serves warm meals, sandwiches, and healthy snacks every single evening. Martha’s Table has doubled-down on their support of the 137 families enrolled in their education programs by providing them with direct cash assistance, grocery store gift cards, and essential supplies like diapers, wipes, and baby formula during the temporary closure of their education centers.
